The Scene: Mondrian South Beach Previewed at Art Basel

If Marcel Wanders' vision for Mondrian South Beach is Sleeping Beauty's Castle, the Thursday night preview of Morgans Hotel Group's new hotel residences was an Art Basel fairytale. Nearly 1,000 elite tastemakers from New York and Miami, including Jamie Lynn Sigler, Travel + Leisure editor Nancy Novogrod, Jason Binn and Belkys Nerey, made it away from the bustle of Miami Beach's oceanfront to get a sneak peek of the fashionable new destination on Biscayne Bay. A marriage of sophisticated innovation and imaginative irreverence set the tone for a magical world, where Baselites wandered among Wanders' creations and vision for the soon-to-be new hot spot. Among the flights of fancy, some of Wanders' collection floated across the pool, including the "crochet" chair featured in this month's Vogue.

The highlight of the evening was Wander's signature Happy Hour Chandelier, featuring a Dancing Angel that suspended herself from the chandelier in Circ de Soleil-style acrobatics, while serving champagne to guests that gathered below her.
While it was not a typical art event, there was art on sale in the form of Marcel Wanders-designed hotel residences at Mondrian South Beach, which were launched that night. Corcoran Sunshine, the New York-based leader in luxury residential real estate marketing, leads sales for the $400,000 to $4 million hotel-residences.
